UN goodwill ambassador Zidane and Real Madrid’s Kaka were joined by Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Thierry Henry, Pavel Nedved and Edgar Davids in front of a capacity crowd of 65,000 at Benfica’s Luz Stadium.

“By coming to the stadium people have done a great thing. I am very happy we can do something to help,” said former France playmaker Zidane after the 3-3 draw.

“This is a very good cause, that’s why there are so many players here. Football is with the people of Haiti,” said Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal who was in charge of the All-Star team.

After a minute’s silence for the victims, Portugal great Eusebio took centre stage for a ceremonial kick-off and Italian referee Pierluigi Collina came out of retirement for the occasion.

Zidane set up the equaliser for Robert Pires only for Eder Luis to restore Benfica’s lead in the 60th minute.
